![]() Keep in mind, the traction control and stability control light will turn on when the system is activated. This warning is often represented as the front view of a car, with two squiggly lines underneath, illustrating what these systems are trying to avoid, which is your vehicle slipping and sliding all over the road. It's not meant to look like a car driving down a wild and curvy road, but it kind of does. Ignoring a blinking check-engine light could mean putting yourself at risk, and ruining your car’s powertrain. This means there’s a far more serious problem, such as a misfire that could permanently damage the car’s engine. Should the light turn on and the vehicle suddenly begin operating erratically or making strange noises, pull over immediately and call for a tow. This also prevents an emissions-spewing vehicle from operating without the driver knowing there’s a problem lurking under the hood. With an OBD scan, sourcing a problem is easier-something as simple as tightening the gas cap might solve the issue. This is a computer that monitors emissions levels and other vital engine components. has been legally required to have an On Board Diagnostic system (OBD). Since 1996, every new car and light-duty truck sold in the U.S. Get the vehicle to a mechanic to run a diagnostic test and source the problem. If the check-engine light illuminates while you're driving and everything seems fine with the car, don't panic, but don't ignore it, either. Or it could mean something far more serious is wrong in the heart of the engine itself. The potential issue could be as minor as a loose wire, an ill-fitting gas cap, or worn solenoid. While it seems like the scariest, this light is one the most ambiguous because it relates to anything having to do with the car's motor and emissions system. Usually, this warning is in the shape of a silhouetted engine, though sometimes it's an even harder to miss all-caps "CHECK ENGINE" message. The check-engine light is the one car owners hate most. To make up for lost time and past misunderstandings, let's explore some of the most common dashboard warning lights and what each one means. So, nearly 90 years ago, our cars were already trying to tell us when something was wrong. "At this point," according to the manual, "your electrical system should be checked by your Hudson dealer." Should it start flashing while traveling above 20 mph, it means the battery isn't being charged. ![]() ![]() The manual advises the light should turn off once the car reaches a speed just above idle. "How many people do you know read the owner's manual? Very, very few."Īccording to Matt Anderson, curator of transportation at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, one of the earliest dashboard warning lights was found in a 1933 Hudson.Īnderson points to a page in a 1933 Hudson Super Six owner's manual in which a generator warning light is referred to as "the red jewel" on the car's dashboard. "People often really don't understand this highly complex device they're motoring around in at very high speeds," Arbelaez said. Yet, as vehicles grow increasingly complex, it's the human factor that can present hurdles. Until you don't."Ī career spent conducting crash tests and researching automobile safety gives Arbelaez unique insight into how cars protect their occupants. ![]() ![]() Confessions earned Usher several awards, including the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album.Īccording to Billboard, it is the second-best selling album of the 2000s decade in the United States, behind NSYNC's No Strings Attached. To boost sales amid threats of bootlegging, the special edition for the album was issued, which includes the single, " My Boo" a duet with Alicia Keys. In the United States, the album sold 1.1 million copies in its first week. The album's themes generated controversy about Usher's personal relationships however, the album's primary producer Jermaine Dupri claimed the album reflects Dupri's own personal story. Primarily an R&B album, Confessions showcases Usher as a crooner through a mixture of ballads and up-tempos, incorporating musical genres of dance-pop, hip hop and crunk. Recording sessions for the album took place during 2003 to 2004, with its production handled by his longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri, along with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Lil Jon, among others. ![]() It was released on March 23, 2004, by Arista Records. We've done a couple of albums so far for our greatest R&B albums of the 2000s series, but there was absolutely no way possible that we could avoid this album.Confessions is the fourth studio album by American singer-songwriter Usher. It is the single greatest R&B album of the 2000s and truthfully it might be in the running for the greatest R&B album ever, or at least in the top 10-15. From the moment this album released to massive first week sales of 1.096 million copies, Usher affirmed himself as a legend forever with this album. It would be the largest first week sales for a R&B artist and Usher would join a small club of artists who have sold 1 million copies in the first week. ![]() The album is one of the very few albums to be certified diamond in the 2000s, and remains the 2nd highest selling album of the entire decade. On top of selling 10 million in the US, the album would sell almost 20 million copies worldwide, making it a landmark moment not only in Usher's career, but in music period. The album itself starts off with a somber yet optimistic intro, as Usher welcomes us to this experience and leads us right into the first single, the Lil Jon produced and featured "Yeah!", which also continues the chemistry of Ludacris and Usher, as Luda drops a solid catchy verse on this song as well. This song is what I have always felt sold the album mostly, as it was such a massive hit and everywhere. Usher would take the Crunk craze, mix it with his R&B sensibility, and blend the genres together with a standard and slightly generic yet catchy Lil Jon beat, a simple call and response style hook, and the magic just flowed together perfectly. While I consider this album a classic, I'll be the first to admit I have a few songs that just don't hit the mark for me, and while I like the production, "Caught Up" has a tendency to fall short when compared to some of the other songs. It's still catchy and enjoyable, but if I feel the need to skip a song or two on this album, this is likely one of them. The lyrics here sound like 2004, or in reality, 1998, as Usher sings "my homies say, this girl is cramping my style", which makes the song sound a bit more dated than it was, but regardless, when these lyrics are delivered by Usher, you just sit back and sing along, no matter how silly it sounds. When we reach the interlude for "Superstar", it's almost as if we've gotten all the filler out of the way, because the album is simply flawless from here on. That's the strange part about this album. The singles were perfectly fit into the story of the album, but they still felt like filler. ![]() ![]() ![]() One of Airtable’s most impressive features is the ease of creating databases.
